Redefining Narratives: Malay Stories
Stories determine who we are and how we behave as a society. Malay folklore is filled with various depictions of women – from the filial Bawang Putih, to the warrior queen Puteri Gunung Ledang. How do such narrations affect the way women are perceived in Malay culture? How can we rewrite negative narratives and celebrate positive ones to create a more inclusive and diverse society?
Come be a part of this discussion to reflect on the possibility of positive transformation and change this Ramadan. In line with our Help Anna campaign, ‘Redefining Narratives: Malay Folklore’ aims to address the gender stereotypes embedded within cultural narratives combats institutional and cultural violence.
